This Company began in Wick in 1960 and steadily grew to gain a world-wide reputation for excellence in glass blowing and design. The prestigious BBC 'Mastermind' Trophy was possibly the most widely known of its products.
In 2005 production stopped at the local factory where around 50 persons were employed - many with specialist skills in glass making. The Company was sold but the Wick factory did not fit into the new owner's plans. Caithness Glass continues to trade as a Company but has no longer any link with its origins in Wick and Caithness. When the local factory closed an extensive collection of Caithness Glass early designs, many inspired by the unique colours of the Caithness land and seascapes, was transferred to the Wick Heritage Museum. This display features within the Museum.
